Part of our 0 waste lineup, these are made from the coffee chaff, a natural paper lining that comes off of the coffee as it roasts, wrapped in the jute bags the coffee arrives in.

We blend the chaff and wax together for a slow burning mix thats perfect for fires of all sizes. Peefect for home, campning or anywhere you need a fire. Simply light the bags exterior and toss in with your logs.

Why is it that when you hear about sustainability,

Why is it that when you hear about sustainability, it's always about what happens on the farms and never at the processor?

As chefs were often at the end of the production cycle for consumables, sustainability is just as important here to reduce waste.

With coffee, one of the main by-products is Chaff, a paper lining that is part of the coffee, which is extruded during roasting. Most roasters simply discard this as it's flammable and could cause issues if left near the machine. We've trued several options, including our coffee chaff fires starters, giving it to farms to incorporate in bedding or mulch; and now finally we're patterning with @fromsporetomore here locally for their mushroom growing.

Being organic material, there is still lots of nutritional value for plants. With the chaff being so light, it's hard to use in a normal garden. The team at Spore to More has incorporated it into their substrate to help propagate some of the delicious mushrooms we use at the restaurant . @consumelakezurich.

Experimenting is the name of the game. The original reason we ended up becoming roasters was a home science project back in DC. The goal was to try and get flavor coffees without the artificial oil.

We've tried alcohol based infusion, smoking and even deep frying (which is amazing btw). Now after an unrelated project got us thinking, we figured we'd give this a try and see what happens
