The mentality is simple, create amazing products, play with ingredients and try to reduce waste to as close to 0 as possible.
There is nothing worse than finishing a product or recipe and being left with a big pile of useable scraps, and then watching them end up in the trash
Unfortunately so many businesses, restaurants and homesteads operate in pretty inefficient ways.
We get it, its cheaper, easier, and sometimes we just don’t have the creativity to figure out what to do with random scraps. Sometimes we feel the same, which is why we try and partner with other businesses and groups to pool our collective brainpower and hopefully create something neat.
Below are some of our favorite collaborations and products!
If you have any ideas or want some burlap, chaff or anything else we have please reach out by email and lets see what we can create!
Rose & Coffee Creations
Meet Rose, apart from being my younger sister, is a budding entrepreneur, who’s been building her own business with the help of her mother, and working towards becoming a public speaker.
Rose has been very active in various Down Syndrome groups, advocating for opportunities for those with special needs, in occupational and recreational space.
As part of the 0 waste project Coffee Creations uses the fiber bags the coffee arrives in to make totes, decorum and even some stuffed animals. They also use excess coffee to create unique coffee stain art!
On top of all the amazing crafts Rose has her own line of coffee, and is always looking for partners for fundraising opportunities!
Spore to More & Mushroom Coffee
Meet Eric, one of the partners of Spore to More located in Fox River Grove.
We LOVE these mushrooms, we use them all the time at the restaurant. They’re amazing.
The team at spore to more like any other food service, has to struggle against demand and waste. So what happens when there are unsold mushrooms?
Well you dehydrate them, powder them and then utilize them in new products.
Mycelium Monday was our answer, a delicious blend of Lions Mane, Reishi and Oyster Mushrooms blended into Fresh Roasted Coffee
Coffee Cosmetics
Another Unique line, courtesy of Chef April
Every now and again we end up with excess coffee, whether we over-roasted, slightly burnt it or have odds and ends from a batch, it happens.
So she had the idea to create this awesome lineup of cosmetics, Coffee becomes carbonized as it roasts, becoming a great filter, and exfoliator.
Mix with some organic fats and oils + some vitamins, maybe a touch of cocoa butter and you have some crazy items
Other items like the Chaff which is extruded from the beans during roasted, we infuse with wax to make our fire starters great from home or camping
